2nd telephone interview

Well its all set up. I have a second telephone interview with a high tech startup in Switzerland.

I feel quite confident about the interview as I am very suited for the position however, I am a little stuck on what questions to ask as I will be speaking with one of the founders of the company on Tuesday morning.

I do not know if I would accept this position even if it was offered for me, it would be a big move. Even further from Ottawa than Toronto!

For now there are other factors that complicate things. There is Mel, would she come with, the other is a family situation in where I feel I should be there for them.

If you don't know already, you could ask.

About the company itself, where does it expect to be in 1 year, 5 years.

Ask questions about the work environment, will you get an office or a cubicle, or just a work bench.

Standard hours. (Flex, or set)

Vacation.

Benefits.

Perks. (hmm debatable, this might make you sound like your trying to take the company for a ride)

You could ask about the area around work, dencely populated, with lots to do, or farm land.

How do most people commute to work? Bus, car, walk? How long is the average drive in. Do any of the office team car pool?

Will the company assist or completely pay for extra schooling for you (if it is not free that is)

How old are the other members of the company, will you be working with 50yr olds or a group all around the same age as you.

What kind of PC will you get to work with, state of the art or 5yr old klunker (Debatable too, might be irelevant in your line of work, not sure)

You can do some research and ask some more questions about the product.

You can ask questions about the general neighbor hood around work, are their apartments, is it suberbia, or are their shoes hung from the telephone lines.(uhm dont ask about the shoes)

Oh, and don't ask about how much sick time you get.

I would say:

- go if Mel would come with you.

otherwise...stay.

Opportunities be damned! It's only Switzerland.

Take note of what your heart tells you...if you cannot enjoy the coolest city on Earth (aka Toronto), how will Switzerland be?

However, I think it would be the most kickass thing any person could do if they accept a position in freakin' Swtizerland. For a year. Any more would have be negotiated with a harem of women.

Clearly, Matt is looking for another job and already has all his questions lined up.

I like the Qs Matt posted. I am always stumped for questions to ask interviewers too.

Good luck whatever you decide to do. This could be a very exciting opportunity for you...
